When you decorate your home, you’re decorating what’s meant to be a haven, a palace, or a sanctuary. The kind of place where you can truly relax surrounded by your own privacy and creature comforts.
That means going a little outside of the budget you’re comfortable with and splashing out on a few decor items! You don’t have to spend, spend, spend on every single inch of your home, but some elements are more crucial than others.
So, if you want to invest in some proper quality pieces that’ll last (and even get better with age!), this is the list to pay attention to. Here’s where your money really goes the furthest within your home’s decor.

Hardwood and Tiles
These make up the floor and wall coverings in the most heavily used rooms in your home (kitchen and bathroom, typically).
As such, you’re going to want to put a little more money their way. You don’t want to have to pull up the boards after only a year, as the wood is of low quality and has already started warping and creaking.
And the same goes for any tiles you use to keep the water out of your walls. You need them to be hardy, water resistant, and hold the grout in place with no problem. Cheap porcelain just isn’t going to cut it!
Cabinet and Door Handles
Home ‘hardware’ is all over the place, and includes things like the brackets you fix the TV onto, the hinges holding your doors in place, and the cabinet and door handles you use every single day.
And it’s these bits of hardware that deserve investment more than anything else! They have to stand up to a lot of wear and tear, and they can be the thin line between a room that looks good and a room that looks a little too shabby.
We recommend investing in hardy metal qualities here, such as brass. After all, replacing handles with some of the premium brass designs by Corston makes more than an aesthetic difference.
Brass is the kind of material that improves with age, so you’re not going to need to replace them again any time soon!
Wall Art
Finally, let’s make sure the art on your walls is of the best quality you can find. Because a few prints from the home furnishings shop are just fine, but it’s not the only kind of art you want to hang up.
You’re going to want some handmade, more in depth pieces that help bring out your home’s personality. And sometimes, that does mean shopping from small artists that are selling their wares via Etsy!
You can also go ahead and make your own art, as that’s quite the hefty investment in your own skills! And when you make art for your home, you really do put your heart into the decor.
Some home decor is worth the time and money! Make sure you fork out in the right areas.
