Why Is Emotional Intelligence Education Important?

Whether you have heard of emotional intelligence education before, you’re sure to know that emotions can cause big problems on a daily basis. When left unmanaged and misunderstood, our emotions can cause us to become unfocused at work and unhappy in our personal relationships. This is why more and more people are taking the time to practice mindfulness, emotional management, and emotional understanding; all of which can be categorised under the broader term of emotional intelligence.

Despite this information, a shocking number of people are still underestimating the importance of taking the time to fully educate ourselves on our very own emotions. Not only does this mean understanding what it is that we are feeling, but understanding why we are feeling that way and how we can manage it. After all, emotions can cause major highs and major lows, as all of us know. This is where emotional intelligence education plays a big part. However, how much do you know about emotional intelligence education and why it is important? Well, you’re about to find out.

What Is Emotional Intelligence Education?

Investing in understanding emotional wellbeing and our own mindfulness is referred to as emotional intelligence. It simply describes the ability to educate ourselves on our thoughts and feelings. It’s not uncommon for people to invest in their education, as a way to secure a high paying job or to ensure that they’re able to achieve set goals in their chosen career. However, very few people consider the importance of investing in their emotional intelligence. A great deal of money is invested into educational intelligence and academic intelligence each and every year, but emotional intelligence is often placed on the back burner.

Similarly, there’s an entire lucrative industry based upon the sheer number of people who work hard to better their physical health. Millions of people every year invest in gym memberships, personal trainers, expensive supplements and medical health professionals. However, very few of these people invest in their emotional intelligence. Though a lot of people are happy to spend money boosting their physical health, less are considering the importance of spending money to boost their emotional form.

Why Is Emotional Intelligence Education Important?

It’s easy to assume that our emotions cannot be controlled, that they happen to us and that there’s very little that we can do about them. It isn’t uncommon for someone to assume that our emotions are just part of life, that they don’t affect us in any way other than causing a bad mood or an emotional slump here and there. However, that isn’t the case. Our emotions have a huge impact on all areas of our lives, such as the way that we perform at work and our ability to develop healthy relationships with others. When our emotions are not understood and managed, things can begin to spiral.

Managing emotions isn’t easy, that’s something that everyone can agree on. This is why a lot of people don’t take the time to understand and manage their emotions fully, leaving everything up to luck instead. However, this isn’t ideal and it’s definitely not recommended. The quality of our emotional life reflects the overall quality of our lives and relationships, both business and personal. It doesn’t matter whether we achieve everything we want to at work and reach the top of the corporate ladder, all of this will be in vain if we’re too stressed to enjoy any of our own success. In the same way, a beautiful holiday or a fantastic new home is only impressive if we are able to manage and understand our emotions enough to enjoy them.

Thoughts and emotions can creep up on us at any moment, but it’s our ability to recognise them that’s most important. It’s important to us, as individuals, to know how to keep our emotions balanced and in check. Otherwise, we run the risk of hindering ourselves in other areas of our lives. This is where emotional education intelligence comes in. By investing in bettering our own understanding and ability to recognise different emotions, we stand a much better chance of leading an emotionally balanced life.

As you can see, there are a number of impressive benefits that come with emotional intelligence education. It doesn’t just help us emotionally, but it also helps us in many other areas of life. It can help us to navigate tricky relationships and it can guide us through our careers in a way that’s free from a lot of the stress that we’re used to. With this in mind, it may come as quite a surprise to find that very few people are adequately investing the time and money that they need to into emotional intelligence education. Luckily, this is something that is slowly changing as more people realise the importance of emotional education intelligence.

One of the first steps you need to take in order to begin enjoying the simple pleasures in life is to slow down. 😊

Take a moment to stop what you are doing. 🚫

1️⃣ Draw your attention to your breath (this will ground you in the current moment).

2️⃣ Notice your breath entering and leaving your body.

3️⃣ Next, firmly plant your feet on the ground and draw your attention to this sensation.

4️⃣ Keep your attention and awareness directed at the breath or your feet on the ground, any time it moves away draw it back with patience.

5️⃣ Continue on with your day.

This is a great way to introduce mindfulness into your life, you are simply making sure that your awareness is directed at the current moment. πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ

Flow states are moments when you are deeply connected & engaged in an activity, and therefore living in the present moment. 🧘

Whether it's sport, writing, drawing or even cleaning, flow states are a great reminder that mindful living doesn't always mean regular deep meditation - mindfulness is everywhere. πŸƒ

Putting in the maximum amount of continuous effort isn't always the answer, besides what society tells us.Β πŸ’

The art of effortless meditation is about stopping the search for "more" and instead focusing on what you already have. Stop worrying or waiting for something greater than what's happening right now. πŸ’—

We understand selfishness as lacking consideration for others and being concerned only with personal gain and pleasure, yet doing the things which contribute towards a genuinely happy and meaningful life, can be intelligently selfish.

Doing what's best for others is the same as doing what's best for yourself. ✨

This can be practiced through Tonglen Meditation, which helps cultivate an inner peace of mind by extending compassion towards others. πŸ™

Change is inevitable. It is important to focus on our relationship to change, one of the certain elements of life. πŸ’

To move with the fluctuation of life, change has to be embraced. We can choose to swim with the tide, or against it. 🧘

We live in such a busy and fast pace environment, that we look past the beauty around us. In every moment of life there is something to be grateful for, you just need to look to find it. 🌞

Slow down and appreciate the small things in life. This can lead to an overall feeling of contentment day-to-day.

Write down three things you are grateful for every night before bed, and watch your life transform as you train your mind to see the positive in each moment. β˜•οΈ

Tonglen meditation is a type of ancient practice focused on compassion. It is a type of visualisation that enhances feelings of compassion towards others. 😌

The word Tonglen is Tibetan for "sending and taking" which is exactly what this practice aims to do. It allows you to focus on the wellbeing of others, stepping away from the usual self-centred approach of our busy daily lives. πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ

Follow this exercise to cultivate the power of Tonglen Meditation.
